Agriculture is part of Malcolm’s DNA, thanks to a lifelong connection with the sector. Malcolm grew up on a cane and horticulture farm before going on to work in the agriculture and agronomy area immediately after completing a Bachelor of Agricultural Science at the University of Queensland in 1994.
He had the opportunity to learn from some of the best in the agronomy field when he started working for professional consulting firm Crop Tech. The position gave him a seat at the table with many of the most successful horticultural producers in Australia, based in Bundaberg, and the chance to develop a wide range of crop expertise.
When Crop Tech was acquired by T Systems in 2006, and then John Deer Water in 2008, it opened the door for Malcolm to start working overseas with growers and he was soon supporting clients in South Asia and New Zealand. An ongoing role with John Deere Ltd saw him regularly engage with growers, providing solutions and precision agriculture technologies in the Australian and New Zealand markets.
Malcolm held a non-executive director position on the board of Nutrano Produce Group Ltd and then as Executive General Manager of Farming for QLD and NT, where the role also required him to have strategic planning and operational oversight of horticultural farming operations, which involved a wide range of orchard and vegetable crops, where harvesting occurred all year round.
He is now a director of PeritusAg Pty Ltd, which is a multi-discipline agricultural consulting business focussing on risk management assessments, loss adjustment, due diligence reporting and feasibility studies.
He is passionate about the advancement of agriculture and focused on playing a part in helping to position the sector to take advantage of the opportunities ahead, while also successfully dealing with any challenges along the way.
